Changing drive letter

Post by arti040 »

I've searched for similar topic but have not found anything useful. I got two disk connected:
  • first, with following partitions - C, D, E
  • second one with C, H and I

How can I change one of Cs to be able to mount all partitions from both disk? Is there a any program for that?

1) Which driver are you using?

2) Have you tried emutos.prg & seeing what that gives you?

I'm assuming this is an ST or related machine, but it would really help to explain a little more when asking questions like this, or include photos. Just a little advice for future reference.

What I would suggest you do is to locate the desktop.inf or newdesk.inf file (Later versions of TOS use newdesk) and move them to a directory so they aren't on the root of either drive.

When you then boot, the partitions shouldn't show on the desktop and you can then select one of the FDD icons on the desktop and the install disk drive option will then be live in the Options menu. You should then be able to add each partition individually into a single desktop.inf/newdesk.inf that is in the root of the boot partition.

You could also use Xboot to set up different profiles with different partitions that can be selected at boot time.

Ok, so first-things-first:
1) I got "standard" driver, I guess. Honestly, it's hard to say for me as I'm a noob ;-)
First HDD image is from here (partitions C, D, E), second one from here (partitions C and U - I made a mistake in a first post).

2) I use EmuTOS as my main ROM

This is exactly what I'm trying to do. I got Atari STe with Ultrasatan. Problem is, there are two C: partitions on two SD cards so I'm not able to get access to both of them because they are in conflict. If I boot from first card, I see C: from the first one and from second card - accordingly. So, I'm looking for a way to... ekhm, change the letters assigned to those partitions? This was my first guess, basing on experience from other platforms ;-)

So I would say, not having read those links, your problem is you have grabbed 2 ready made SD cards. It's like grabbing to 2 external hard drives and hoping they work in many ways, and as you say they are in conflict with one another. You can't just change the letters unfortunately. You are likely going to have to choose what SD card you want to boot with from 'slot 1' of your Ultrasatan. i.e. what C: partition you want to keep. With your other SD card, I imagine you want to keep its contents, so perhaps the easiest way is to do as rubber_johnnie says regarding
What I would suggest you do is to locate the desktop.inf or newdesk.inf file (Later versions of TOS use newdesk) and move them to a directory so they aren't on the root of either drive.

When you next boot, you will boot to a desktop with no C: drive etc..., you can then add your new drives how you wish from the Options Menu and Install Devices. If an earlier version of TOS, then you will need to highlight a drive, then under the Options menu select Install Disk Drive, and add how you wish, then Save Desktop under the Options menu which will save a new desktop.inf or newdesk.inf to the root of your C: drive.

Worst case scenario is you will have move the contents of the SD card which you don't want to use as your boot SD card into a folder on SD card 1, and re-partition the second SD card. You could use ICD Pro to re-partition, downloading the software and following the guide from Lotharek would be easiest, from step 10: http://joo.kie.sk/?page_id=306

Or, of course you could just use them independently, but I imagine you don't want to do that.

Thanks for all of you. That trick helped and I was able to mount all partitions using different letters :-)
