Interesting use for an Oscilloscope

Post by rubber_jonnie »

I sometimes watch videos on repair and troubleshooting for old hardware, and happened on this Asteroids Cocktail table refurb yesterday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9peQ7NmCqQ

The video itself is quite generic, but if you fast forward to about 28 minutes, they are using an oscilloscope connected to the X & Y outputs of the board to see the image, albeit in poor quality, on the oscilloscope.

I found this fascinating and a very interesting way to see the video out of this board and verify it has video output. Not sure if it would work elsewhere, but interesting nonetheless.

It'd work for any vector display but not for raster displays.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

Yeah, that would make perfect sense.

Just had a look at these, I've seen the mushroom type stuff before, I think there was something similar on the CuriousMarc channel, but the Quake one is quite astounding, it's like Quake in the Matrix :)

Impressive stuff.
