Aha, all makes sense now, especially with the metal cover over the motor coils. Not had one of those personally I don't think.Steve wrote: 14 Oct 2021 15:39 @rubber_jonnie Check this out, same drive:

Hi Steve,
It took a while but finally managed to get a post on the forum! Thanks for all your sterling work on the STe. I got the VGA adaptor home and tested out the system, all working lovely and found your blog very interesting to follow as you worked through a very old machine in need of its revamp.
I will now be looking to purchase a joystick or 2 so if anyone has any suggestions for suppliers that would be appreciated. I got one recently off Ebay which will get me by but would anticipate getting another, spare or something.
Cheers,
Roy

Personally I like the Competition Pro joystick, though I know it's not to everyone's tastes.1040STe wrote: 23 Nov 2021 11:24

It is still available, just be aware that the modern iterations tend to be USB and you'll need 9 pin DIN. I bought mine from AmigaKit (Don't judge me!) though sadly they don't seem to sell them any more. There are plenty on eBay though, and I'd advise against a transparent one as they go yellow and look really horrible.
They are nearly indestructible though!

Ah brilliant glad you're happy! For joysticks I personally prefer D-Pads like on consoles. So I have some modified Nintendo controllers that work on Atari. After watching this video I got one for myself:1040STe wrote: 23 Nov 2021 11:24 Hi Steve,
