Yeah, nothing works. I tried on an old laptop now, and at least there it will connect to the programmer, but still won't see the chip. Tells me to change the mode, but once I do, it just tells me to change it again.

This means that it cannot see stm32 chip. You may try to connect reset line, maybe this will help and will force stm32 to connect.
Other issue might be C22, what value do you have there?

OK, I made a bit of progress. By connecting the NRST line, I can actually connect to the chip now. However this only works in "Hot plug" mode with Hardware reset enabled.

But when I try to program it, it still craps out. I tried enabling and disabling the low power mode but this makes no difference.

For C22, (4.7uF) I used this one:

I had similar issues with wrong regulator cap C22, but 4.7uF or any 1-10uF+ should do the job.
It looks like chip crapped itself during programming. This sometimes locks the chip, and to make it work again, I had to do full erase or even sometimes program it via STM32CubeIDE in debug mode before I could use it again.

I made some progress, I can program, read and verify the chip now. I had to connect the 3.3V header to the programmer pin 1 (MCU VDD) and this was the missing step.

EDIT: figured out the second question so deleted it from here. It looks like everything is working now. Will try to solder the second connector and try it with the 330. BTW, what is LED2 for?

OK, tested with the 330, a wireless USB mouse is working fine as well as regular USB keyboard. Apple USB keyboard won't work with this.

I don't have any USB controllers to try other than Xbox 360/PS3/PS4, but I don't suppose these will be compatible.

I use LED2 to notify when I override ports. But it is equivalent of correct enumeration of usb device.

Those are most likely non standard USB game controllers. If game controller provide Standard HID descriptor on initialization then it should work fine.

With the riser and TF330, can you chuck in a data CD into the CD32, and see if you hear data noise through the audio channel of the CD32?
I hear all the high pitch data squeeling when the disc is accessed....

Do you mean through the headphones jack? I don't actually have any working analogue headphones (been using the bluetooth ones for a while now), but I don't hear any interference over the 1084S speakers.

I am still waiting for the battery holders to arrive to test the RTC function. I would also like to know which gamepad I can buy to try, if there are any recommendations. As expected, the PS3/PS4 controllers are not compatible. The common wireless logitech mouse also doesn't seem to work (maybe I need to play with the settings?), but a cheap chinese one does.

Nope, through the standard RCA outputs....
Could you throw in a data CD, any CD, and see if you hear the high pitch squeel of data coming out the audio. If you get it, you'll know about it.
