Help wanted in creating 720K floppies

Post by pe1goo »

Hello.
I'm looking for someone in the Netherlands who can help me in creating 720K floppies for my Atari 260ST.
I've a lot of st images but no computer with a working 720K floppy-drive. The USB floppy-drives from nowadays can only be used for HD 1,4MB diskettes unfortunately. My Atari works but without software it isn't that useful.
Greetings,
Nick de PE1GOO

Just get a Gotek, and maybe an SD card hard disk solution.

Hi there are one or two brands of USB floppy drives that do support both 720k and 1.44Meg floppies (but only for standard formats, not protected games etc).

I have at least one of those so I will try to dig out the part number later.

There is one in the exxos store but shipping to you may be problematic :(

+1 for a Gotek and an SD card solution. My preferred SD solution is the Ultrasatan, but there are lots around that are less expensive, such as ACSI2SD, SD4ST, BBAN & GigaFile.
Collector of many retro things!
800XL and 65XE both with Ultimate1MB,VBXL/XE & PokeyMax, SIDE3, SDrive Max, 2x 1010 cassette, 2x 1050 one with Happy mod, 3x 2600 Jr, 7800 and Lynx II
Approx 20 STs, including a 520 STM, 520 STFMs, 3x Mega ST, MSTE & 2x 32 Mhz boosted STEs
Plus the rest, totalling around 50 machines including a QL, 3x BBC Model B, Electron, Spectrums, ZX81 etc...

Some of the modern USB drives can't support 720k format from the GUI but they will format 720k via CLI. Always worth a try too.

Is there a program on the ST that writes an .ST disk image from a hard drive to a floppy disk? In case you have a program or game that can only be run by booting from a floppy disk.

Of course, if you have a Gotek, that won't be needed anymore.

@sandord yes, Hatari. It writes directly to .st disk images. It's how I get all my stuff on to my Gotek.

I get what you mean but I meant writing to an actual physical floppy disk on a real ST.

TRACC (TrackCopy). It seems to be handling MSA and ST files to disk. Find it hidden here: https://atari.8bitchip.info/floimgd.php

Perfect! OP might use this if he wants a solution that doesn't require opening their machine. Although an external Gotek also would be a good solution.
