OK, so the final setup went well, but unfortunately it's not booting from my Gotek...

However there seem to be possible reasons for it not working properly.

First is memory. It seems to require full banks and I don't have a full bank on the expansion board - more RAM is coming but I don't know when it'll be here, but it should help.

The other thing is the 6821. Because of the incorrect silk screen on the 610 board, I've had them in the wrong way with power on...

Apparently this is a common thing, but I have another on order to rule it out as being bad.

Still more to do with the 610.

I'm still waiting for my extra RAM to arrive, but it's in the dead zone between customs and courier, fingers crossed it'll arrive sometime this week.

The Gotek isn't working yet, so I'll be going over all my soldering to look for bridges etc, and all the setup of the one shot pulse generators. I'm determined to have this thing working, it's been such a huge project, but a fun one (For the most part!)

I'm looking forwards to having the full 32K installed and being able to load from disk, it's sooo close now!!

There is a bit more on the subject over here: My 610 build over at OSIWEB

The folks over there are super helpful and full of knowledge so I'm confident I'll get this over the finish line. I need my bench free too as I have an H4, an H5 and a Cosmac Elf II to build, so I have to get it done.

I think the Elf II will be next :)

OK, I just finished re-doing the one shot timers (For the second time!) and I have good news :)

Yep, the data separator is working!

And guess what that means? Yep, disk booting is a go from the Gotek!

I'm very happy right now, it just sprang into life once the timers were all good, I'd clearly missed a trick when I first did it, but really happy to see these things boot off the Gotek :)

I'm doing a little happy dance now, it's been a long time from when I started the 600, a long time to get going on the 610, and now to have both RAM and Gotek working, well, I'm pretty pleased with the results, and I feel like it's the late 70's again :)

Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

And it looks like the rest of the RAM arrived this morning, shame I'm in the office today!

I am dreaming of a whole 32k of RAM being at my fingertips 🤣

It still amuses me just how little ram we had back in the day and were happy with it and how much we have these days. my M4 Mac has 24GB but even that's small compared to another computer I have that has 96GB.

Great to see you've got it running. Are you bringing it to Cyber Legends?
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.
