My OSI 610 build - Expansion for the OSI 600
Well, I reckon I've had the 610 board long enough now, so I've started collecting all the parts to do the build, and I've made a start by getting going on the data separator board seen here atop my Atari 400 :)
I've hopefully got most of the passives in stock and I've just had a large delivery of sockets ready to go. More photos as the build progresses :)
This will expand out the RAM of the OSI 600 I built last year and will add a floppy drive, and they apparently work well with Goteks :)

Re: My OSI 610 build - Expansion for the OSI 600
Well, in an astonishing stroke of luck, I have all the capacitors and resistors required for the 610 board!!
All I need to do next is figure out the IC's to see what I'm missing (I guarantee I don't have enough RAM!!! and the connectors in use and I should be good to get started on the main part of the board. Need to finish the data separator too, but that should be quick and easy.

OK, that's all the missing IC's ordered, so I can get started :)

Re: My OSI 610 build - Expansion for the OSI 600
Little bit more building with the data separator:
Just a couple of caps and it's done. That means I need to make a start on the 610 Board itself.
I'd say it'll be fun, but given the acres of sockets it has, it will likely be more of a chore!!!

Re: My OSI 610 build - Expansion for the OSI 600
OK, so component guide is done :)
So I can crack on with the main board build soon, though I am having a tooth extracted tomorrow, so I might not get much done!
I will however double check for mistakes before I start the build :)

Re: My OSI 610 build - Expansion for the OSI 600
Well, what with my eyes being dodgy after an examination, and also my tooth extraction site, I didn't go training last night, but it means the board is built:
And here with the data separator fitted:
I've checked for shorts and done a smoke test with nothing plugged in, and I've checked all the sockets for correct voltages and they are fine, so just starting to pop ICs in sockets.
Once it's all done I need to make the cable that connects it to the OSI 600 and see how it all looks assembled. Then I need to try and source the 48 RAM IC's (Well 43, I have 5 from the OSI 600 build), but in the meantime there is some setup and testing of both the 610 and the data separator. Once that's done I can try hooking up a Gotek :)

Re: My OSI 610 build - Expansion for the OSI 600
Thanks :)
Annoyingly I seem to have missed some IC's off my order :( So I have just ordered those but I have a couple of IC's that don't seem to be what I ordered.
The 54LS02's can seemingly be replaced by a 74LS equivalent, and according to the datasheet they are also named as 74LS items, but I also have what was supposed to be N8T95Ns are actually N8T126N's, so not at all the same thing :(
More to order.

Re: My OSI 610 build - Expansion for the OSI 600
Bloody annoying, but at least I've got them on order. The difficult thing will be the RAM IC's but I'm not going to order those until I have the 610 set up and working and I'd like to have the FDD side working too.HigashiJun wrote: 12 Apr 2025 22:09It often happens here too...rubber_jonnie wrote: 12 Apr 2025 14:26 Thanks :)

AFAIK the board doesn't have to be populated with RAM for the other parts of it to work.
