The idea for using hairdresser creme instead of liquid H2O2 came about a week or two after the original post in 2007 but by then lots of people were trying it.

That original formula with gum in may have been around the same time, but that webpage dates to 2009

As often with things like this, sometimes the same things are discovered by different people at different times. I'd not seen the original post you mention. Interesting history though.

I searched a lot when I was looking to see if it could be done and never came across that site, if I had I may have had more success and not bothered with the method I chose, which put me off for years.

I think the results are OK overall and whilst not perfect, a definite step above the original brown.

The proof of a great improvement rests in the fact that the kbd/function keys are not a whole league of shades different! ;)

I think thats a good enough job, considering the variability of retrobriting.

Indeed it's not 100%, and I haven't fully cleaned it yet either so there are some water marks I need to get off, but I'm overall quite pleased, it's a massive improvement over what it was. I have a Mega ST that is quite bad, so I may have a go at that.

Yes, they're pretty close now, and it's also difficult to see it in a good light with the pictures, it looks better in person.

When I did mine the worst areas of non-uniformity were places where human hands had touched lots.

Around the reset button, floppy drive facia and eject, middle of the space bar (and just in front of the space bar on the case), arrow keys (and just below them on the case).

I thought that perhaps sweat/oils (hand cheese) had seeped into the plastic and changed the UV nature of the plastic or worn down the top layer?
