Yeah that's what I kind of assumed @stephen_usher, £600 is kind of on the ridiculous side. Its staying in my collection for now though :)stephen_usher wrote: 06 Aug 2024 13:43Well, there are people trying to sell them on eBay who don't know how much they're really worth. :-)
Hint: Even after appearing on RMC a few times it's about half or less of what they're asking.

If you want a nuts price, there's this:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133956887356
£500 + delivery for a ROMpack... which is a small PCB with a 74 TTL chip and an EPROM, this contents of which are free on-line.

Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

Re: PhilCs blog / the latest things hes broken(fixed)
Pretty happy with myself this afternoon. I took a punt on a broken ATI Mach32 ISA graphics card the other week. It arrived a couple of days ago and I finally got around to putting it on the bench today.
So when I plugged it in it wouldn't display a thing iny old Sharp PC-7210 so I thought, I'd obviously wasted my money.
On closer inspection it looked like one of the ISA buffer chips had badly corroded legs. Do cut those off, put in an HCT245 in it's place, removed a bit more corrosion on the PCB and I've only gone and fixed it.
It's a 1MB card, so I'll be trying to track down some HM514170JP8 chips to upgraded it to 2mb and then that's the graphics sorted for the Raven build.

Simply plug in the missing second megabyte. Otherwise you don't need to do anything else I think ...

Still pottering around with the old retro stuff as and when the Cancer treatment lets me. I spend a lot of my time asleep or laying down thinking about retro stuff.
So today I've been doing a bit of retrobriting amongst other things.
So whilst I'm still trying to sort out these annoyingly pink Oric Atmos keys I threw in one of the C128 shift keys. And boy did it highlight the need to sort the rest of the keys out.

That's come out very nicely, I may have to do mine after the earlier ST and Electron success. Shame the weather here is a bit cold though as it's quite sunny.PhilC wrote: 07 Oct 2024 14:32 Still pottering around with the old retro stuff as and when the Cancer treatment lets me. @rubber_jonnie I do mine inn small batches using a takeaway food tray with one of those led nail lamps sat over it. Had to modify the lamp to stay on permanently, otherwise I'd be pressing the start button every 99 seconds
Got to find a better way to keep these keys submerged. Playdoh doesn't work, lol as I found out, Hydrogen peroxide is very good at resolving it.

What I do with my keys is put them in a ziplok bag, fill it with the water/HP mix and then as I close the bag expel all the air and lock it. It means the keys are pretty much submerged all the time and don't need holding down. I do occasionally let any gases out of the bag (You do get bubbling) and then reseal, and if outside I put silver foil under it to reflect the sunlight.PhilC wrote: 07 Oct 2024 14:46 @rubber_jonnie I do mine inn small batches using a takeaway food tray with one of those led nail lamps sat over it. I have considered getting a UV lamp setup so I can do wintertime retrobriting, wouldn't take much to set something up that I could leave in the garage for extended periods.
