Phew! At last.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.

Can't tell you how glad I am I got to the end with this one!!!

Otherwise I'd have ended up with 3 dead PS4s!!! I at least feel like the is a chance now with the WLOD machine after my work on the good one.

Now I just need to find a permanent home for it :)

OK, so going to get back to PS4 land soon, but first it's re-balling time:

APU is prepped and ready to get re-balled, TBH this is more of an experiment to see if I can replace the IC rather than for hoping to see if I can make it work again, but it'd be interesting to see what happens once I get the APU reinstalled, see if I still get UART output and a blue light.

Should be fun...

I don't know if you've been following it but PS4 (FW v11 and below) can now run Linux. It's pretty cool and amazingly fast considering how old the technology is and that all the HW drivers are effectively homebrew (yes it is x64 AMD/ATI based and so has similarities with PC HW).

Maybe something to try if you choose to Jailbreak your PS4

Well this one will probably never run again, hence why I'm using it to build my soldering techniques, however I do have a 3rd that just needs to have the HDMI fixed and it may work, we'll see :)

Well that didn't go to plan...

First re-ball attempt and i had the template/stencil at a squint, so not sitting properly on the APU, and had to start again. 2nd attempt, the clamp wasn't tight enough and the APU shifted.

Final attempt, its all good, all the balls are in place until I tried to use hot air to melt the balls and the flux wasn't sticky enough, even at low speed, and the solder balls shifted because the stencil bowed due to the heat.

So, everything is cleaned up and ready to go for another go tomorrow, except this time I will be using solder paste and we'll see if the stencil does it's thing.

Meh!
