I think they retired their crypto thing, which is good. There's the atari hotels thing still o the cards, I think. And there's the modern VCS.
They also put out the 50th anniversary thing on multiple platforms, which got really good reviews. It apparently was a solid product, which was nice to hear about. (I'll probably buy it, one day.)
AtariAge acquired by Atari. Wow

Oh, I hadn't seen that before. That looks kind of neat.
It does seem like there are some good intentions behind the current Atari brand. This is still riding the nostalgia/retro train, but I'm definitely not opposed to official modern hardware that can run old cartridges. Feels more substantial than a quick cash grab.

I'm tempted maybe. It's 3/4 size and emulation based - but it runs 7800 games and outputs hdmi. I have a 2600, but sold my 7800 years ago. There's some decent 7800 homebrew these days.stween wrote: 07 Sep 2023 20:56 Oh, I hadn't seen that before. That looks kind of neat.

I suppose they've got to make some quick cash to fund the new stuff

The 2600+ looks cool.
I've got a 2600 with scart mod thought
I think the way of the carts is better as retro people tend to collect stuff. Having a SD card full of games isn't everyone's cup of tea.

All 8/16/32/64 Atari Corporation hardware IP was made public domain by Hasbro in the late 90s early 00s. There are legal documents floating around the net somewhere, I've seen them. Pretty much anything that didn't require a 3rd party license was made public domain. This included all chip designs, PCB designs, SDKs, encryption keys etc. They wanted the community to be able to continue to develop hardware and software for the Atari platforms license free. I felt at the time it was a very generous donation.exxos wrote: 07 Sep 2023 18:53 wow. Let's hope Atari don't screw up retro computing with IP claims else we all be screwed.

Oh wow didn't know that. I guess not much survived as a lot of hardware info is still missing.alexh wrote: 08 Sep 2023 08:29 All 8/16/32/64 Atari Corporation hardware IP was made public domain by Hasbro in the late 90s early 00s. Me neither, but what about case designs? I'm thinking of the recent 800XL reboot and the UK Games company (can't remember their name) who hold the rights. They issued a cease and desist letter.exxos wrote: 08 Sep 2023 09:57Oh wow didn't know that. Wasn't some IP taken by Atari Germany or something? I have a vague memory of reading something once about this

Nobody seems to know what IP Atari actually has. I think its only game rights if hasbro released everything else hardware wise. I think Atari would have tried to sue people by now otherwise.
One thing I never really got is why Atari are not shutting down people producing mugs etc with their logo on, because it would violate their IP. I can only assume they just see it as "free advertising".
I remember the rank logo (company I worked for) our workshop produced some background music systems which we built up ourselves. We had to stick their logo on the front and there was hell over that because it had to be certain sizes certain colours certain shapes etc. Everything had to be authorised. The sticker was actually a few amm to tall and we was not even allowed to cut it  every little tiny detail has to be approved and authorised. Was the same with gaming cabinets as well. The list is endless.
