What's an M-Vave FM-1?

This is

It's a small keyboard that's supposed to use DX7 patches etc. only just got it today, so not had time to play with it very much.

Of course it's available in other colours but I've always been a sucker for all things purple.
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

Will be interested to know if it does actually sound like a DX7 (and the purist in me is wondering which flavour of DX7 that would be...the original, the S or the IID/FD)...

Comparison with real DX7:

(roughly in the middle of the video):

I happen to have a FM-1 for quite a while now, and have been posting about it. For example on Reddit:

Or in that forum:

Oh, and I made good old DX Android for TOS work on it:

Thanks @czietz - very interesting (and good to have an editor that works with it and older DX synths)!

@JezC , I understood from another thread that you have a real DX7? I'm still looking for someone who would record a single note (few seconds) on an actual DX7 with the string patch that I have been testing with. I have shown (see the Elektronauts and Reddit threads) that with my modified firmware the FM-1 sounds essentially identical to Dexed; but I'm curious how close it's to a DX7 now.

Yes, I have a DX7S (and a TX7) in my collection... I've got a very busy week ahead (including taking my kids back to start the new University term in different cities :/) but I should be able to do it at the end of next week if that's ok?

If you want to drop the details in a PM (or start a new topic for it) then we can take it from there?

In the meantime I can check whether the differences between the DX7 and DX7S will make much difference beyond the improved DAC resolution (15 bits compared to 12 for the original DX7... it's been a while since I used it, so this sounds like a good excuse to show it some love!

That device looks very interesting @PhilC :)

At one point I was going to get a MIDI interface for the Saturn for CL5, as that has a damn good FM synth (better than SY99 implementation; up to 32 operators, sample modulation, DSP, etc), the Yamaha YMF292. Maybe next year?
