A PS1 surprise

Post by rubber_jonnie »

So I picked up a PS1 some time ago, and didn't open it up since it worked and was pretty clean.

However a long term plan was to fit an ODE and I've started looking over the last few days. In order to get the correct ODE I pulled the top off to ID the mainboard, which turned out to be a PU-22.

I also found this:

It's been modded, and very neatly I might add!!!

I'm now wondering if it'll play CDR's...

I will have to try over the weekend I think.

So it seems the best option for this is the PSIO, so I'll have a look and get one ordered and in the meantime I'll test the CDR option :)

Nice.

While I do have a PS1 (and a PSOne) I tend to play PS1 (and PS2) games on a soft-modded Fat PS3 gen1.

I tried to get a Fat PS3 but they were quite expensive, it was actually cheaper to get the PS1 and PS2 Slim!!!

They go for about £25-£35 on ebay working but with some cosmetic issues. Less if they have laser or eject problems (not that you need a working drive)

Cheaper untested but you risk them being YLOD (practically irreparable)

Yeah every time I think about getting a PS1 the same thing runs through my head... "but why not just get a ps2, then I can play both ps1 & ps2 games"... then I remember PS2 isn't HDMI and I'd want to get a super expensive HDMI mod... then I think "Why not just get a PS3, then I can play PS1, PS2 and PS3 games, without needing a HDMI mod"... then I just give up on the whole idea lol :) I tend to play PS1 games with my hand-held emulator device anyways.

Not when I was last looking, they were a twice the price of non-Fat PS3's, though that was probably 18 months to 2 years ago.

Maybe the interest in PS3 is over? Especially now that the PS4 is fully hacked and PS5 partially hacked.

There are PS3 FAT consoles on ebay below £35 that look ok ending in the next few days. But don't start collecting PS3s or PS4s like me :)
