TOS roms USA or English?

Hi,

Im in the USA and have a 1040STE

I want to upgrade the TOS but I don't understand which version to get.
Almost all the TOS have and English and USA version.

Which do I get?
What are the differences?

You would want to get the USA version. There are subtle differences between colonial English and the King's English. :lol:

Just a quick demonstration:

Whats the difference between grey and gray?

One is a color and the other is a colour.

See what I mean? :)

When I installed TOS v3.06 ROMs into my Pak 68/3 accelerator board in my STacy, I went through that.

Just pick the US version and you should be fine.

Interestingly enough, that can actually be an issue. Holger Zimmerman was
nice enough to do a US version of the modified TOS v3.06 ROMs for the
Pak 68/3 board in my STacy, and everything seemed fine for years.

Until I put in the RGB2HDMI mod. It uses "profiles" and I didn't realize it
at first but I couldn't get it to select a 60hz profile - it always defaulted
to 50hz.

Long story short, it was the TOS ROMs forcing it into 50hz mode. Holger
redid them and that fixed that.

fortunately it can be fixed by placing 50/60Hz application in AUTO folder or by modifying the TOS header "os_conf" (byte $1D) in ROM:
"os_conf The component os_conf contains the so-called NTSC/PAL flag in its lowest bit; if this bit is set, then the machine has a PAL video system, if cleared NTSC."
