The Thread I started in the Introduce section was getting a bit long and less relevant so decided to move over here.
At the moment I'm trying to pull the DMA chip from the mainboard and fit a socket.
This is never an easy process as many will know.
I do have a couple of electronic solder suckers but keep returning to the stoneage method of applying new leaded solder to pins ..then flux ...mechanical solder pumps (hand held) and flux treated copper braid.
Then apply only low melt solder to those stubborn pins that feel like a bottomless pit for heat.
I'm taking a break atm ...cup of tea and taking my time.
I have one side of the 40 pin chip free...
my method is the hand pump ...apply fluxed braid...then hold the board up to a strong even bright light ...and draw a map of the pin status.
Open circle for a free pin ...a thicker circle for partialy clear and a fully black circle for still blocked.
Youd be surprised how useful that map is as it avoids re-applying extra un-needed heat to pins that are already clear.
Sad to say that at 68 my eyes are not what they were ..and some times my hand shakes on account of having MS.
But this method seems to work for me as I have been a TV repair guy for most of my life.
So no stranger to difficult repair jobs.
I'm retired now so can devote my time an patience to fixing stuff for myself.
Patience is the key here...lots of breaks and cups of tea.
lol

PC drives has pin 1 opposite side from Atari drive. So the flat cable needs to be upside down. And set to DS0 to be recognized as previous stated in another thread.

@Vipersan Please don't split threads like this and continue in your original thread else it will get to confusing to follow over multiple topics. Thanks.
