Introducing myself from the Netherlands

Post by locutus2000 »

Hi all, my name is Marc (turning 43 soon) and my first Atari ST experience was when I was 4 years old and my father & brother had bought our first 520ST, he modded it later to have an internal floppy drive as well and later we upgraded to a 1040ST. I remember playing Arkanoid, Mini golf & Lotus racing back then. Later I even typed one of my school reports on it when I was 8 years old. At some point I remember we bought a video grabber. I used it to screenshot Michael Jackson and I printed his picture on our matrix printer.

Last week I bought an Atari 1040STe with the SM125 monitor, mouse and manual. It even included a Cubase dongle and some manuals. I sold these to recover some of the cost :) Since I bought it I went down the rabbit hole, I have purchased:

Gotek OLED
External Gotek connection kit with USB power board
UltraSatan
4x 1MB Simm (also from Lotharek)
DMA Fix board (I have the faulty DMA Chip)
Quickshot joystick (the red one, we had it in the eighties)
RGB Scart cable
MT32 Pi hat to enjoy some good sounds from LucasArts games (and others)

I am a retro gaming enthousiast and I collect Laserdisc players & discs. I would call myself proficient with (micro)soldering and I love to mod and upgrade this older hardware to keep it alive.

I was looking at all the cool upgrades in the Exxos shop and was very disappointed that the EU is making our lives more difficult. Do you have tips on how to acquire a DualTOS adapter and the 32Mhz booster? I think this upgrade would be very nice so hope to hear your thoughts.

Welcome to the forum!

Hope you manage to find a way to buy the upgrades, it's sad that all the enthusiasts are being affected by these changes.

Maybe you need to have a holiday in the UK and visit Cyber Legends 4 and collect things from there!

Welcome to the forum and retro group.

Just a thought on the DualTOS adapter, you could look at the SidecarTridge TOS Emulator for Atari ST/E/MegaST/MegaSTE which allows multiple TOS versions to be loaded. You would need to check delivery options as he has also had issues with EU delivery.

I actually did earlier last week, also doesn't ship to the Netherlands. Luckily I found a friend in the UK who can help me get the parts I need so I will be able to build a very nice 1040STe. I guess with the 32Mhz CPU and 4MB RAM ScummVM will just run!
