BadMooD 2.01 for DFB1/X

Post by dml »

I just released an updated build of BadMooD which properly supports the DFB1/X accelerator at 40/50MHz.

You just need the base files ZIP and the overlay ZIP with some additional builds for accelerated machines (including DFB1).

https://www.leonik.net/dml/files/BadMoo ... 1_base.zip
https://www.leonik.net/dml/files/BadMoo ... _accel.zip

(BM download page is: https://www.leonik.net/dml/sec_bm.py)

There are two TOS builds for DFB1 - one uses straightforward CPU pixel shading, the other uses DSP for animated floor textures (speed is close but the DSP one probably a bit more expensive). Both builds use lossless gametick like the original PC version, unlike the vanilla 16MHz version which relies on quite a few lossy optimizations.

Pick the relevant TOS file, drop it in the game root directory.

There are several .cfg files optimised for each build. Pick one, rename it to default.cfg and drop it next to the TOS file. The main .cfg differences involve the controls ('standard arrows' or 'pro gamer WSAD' :p ) and audio settings - Codec/softsynth music vs MIDI replay, audio quality tweaks etc.

The DFB1 builds have several tweaks for better audio since there is extra CPU power available.

As is always the case for Doom ports - to run it you need the original game data, which isn't free. BadMooD needs Ultimate Doom v1.9. Details are in the .txt within the base files ZIP.

There's more info in the BadMooD thread over on AF but I'll be updating the info on my site later too.
