Some of you may have noticed a forum outage.
@exxos is aware and between the admins, service has been restored.
Not sure what the ultimate root cause is, it could have been an attack, but we do know some processes ran out of memory
Be aware it will be looked at.
Can all registered uses please login, even just for a few minutes..
It helps build a picture where our "good traffic" is coming from..
Thanks :)

Re: Forum Outage
I will look when I get back home tonight.
The only clue so far seems to be the server ran out of RAM. But it's got like 2GB free... I think the issue actually started somewhere just before midnight.
I was doing some updates on Thursday but I had to abandon them because I had to fix our toilet

Re: Forum Outage
Yep, saw that earlier this morning...was coming up with a 503 error IIRC.
Glad it's back - and a big thank you to all admins and @exxos for their continued efforts to provide such a great forum for us!

On modern OSs I'm not tsure you can print "Hello world!" if you "only" have 2GB free.exxos wrote: Sun Jul 27, 2025 12:12 pm The only clue so far seems to be the server ran out of RAM. But it's got like 2GB free... I think the issue actually started somewhere just before midnight.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

Try running Windows 11 on 2GB, you'll fail before you get started..stephen_usher wrote: Sun Jul 27, 2025 1:23 pmOn modern OSs I'm not tsure you can print "Hello world!" if you "only" have 2GB free.exxos wrote: Sun Jul 27, 2025 12:12 pm The only clue so far seems to be the server ran out of RAM. Re: Forum Outage
It seems my stats program used about 2GB RAM and Linux killed it.. Then acted like a machine gun randomly killing other running processes
I've disabled the program for now..
