Dead Hackers society now dead ?

Post by exxos »

I don't often venture outside this forum, but from time to time click links if I see them pop up while looking for the stuff..

https://dhs.nu//
Dear visitor,

as you've probably noticed, the DHS.NU site have slowly but steady become less and less updated with news over the last decade or so, to the point that it's only a handful of articles every year.

There are many factors playing in, but the most important have been that we need more editors, but a home cooked and unflexible way to update the site with new content have been a show stopper.

But now, things change. A bunch of Atari demoscene veterans have joined forces to remedy the sitation. We've opened a new site for news about the Atariscene world. We hope it will be successful and live for many years to come.

DHS.NU will become a read only site in steps, starting with the news section. There are 1717 articles in the archive spanning thirty years. We'll show a few random articles here on the front page and in the archive you can browse year over year.

We'd like to thank everyone who has visited DHS.NU to read demoscene news over the years and hope you'll find Atariscne.org a good replacement!
There doesn't seem to be a posted date when that was published it could be years old for all I know...

It seems they started a new site https://atariscne.org/news/

Seems be mostly software related ? It does mention ZeST and the wizztronics Falcon clone, but no mention of anything we do on here like the H5 or Ravan boards etc, or much hardware at all by the looks of it.

So not sure what news they are even trying to cover at this point ? No "about" page to even give any clues.

It's fairly new. I think primarily it's a web equivalent to atariscn IRC, so it's focus is demoscene but it it does mention other things from time to time. I just read it's atom feed. I kinda like it tbh.

I think anyone can potentially submit news - you'd just need to speak to the admins most likely

As a sometime contributor to atariscne.org I can add a little bit more.

It is the replacement for dhs.nu- That site will be maintained as an archive, but no new updates on there.

The scope of atariscne.org is primarily, but not exclusively demoscene. It's trying to pull together some of the diverse strands of Atari related happenings.

If there is something exciting in the world of hardware, sure, get in touch.

Thanks.. It does seem to be more demo seem related.. I don't think there really are hardware news sites, specifically other than the daily goings on on this forum, which is is fine I suppose..

I kind of gave up trying to spread the word about the motherboards etc. Seems pretty much anything and everything gets on sites like HackaDay. Though I have tried sending like 30 articles to them over the years, I don't think even one ever got published  .. And they sometimes publish right mind blowing a useless garbage articles at times, and yet they never once published any of my stuff!! I just don't follow any other sites anymore. It's a similar trend in a lot of places, so I don't tend to bother anymore.

Thankfully @coonsgm does a fantastic job of reporting on current goings-on in the community these days. I wish there was more channels like his about , as almost nobody covers Atari stuff these days.

https://www.youtube.com/@powerofvintage9442

In fact his channel is the only retro channel I am actually subscribe to other than @Badwolf's these days. It mostly got tiresome for me all the channels talking about everything retro but not Atari stuff.

Of course its great a lot of the retro machines get the coverage, but just don't have the time or the interest for them all. So I unsubscribed from all of them about a year ago.

I'm sure they would accept posts if there was a news story from here?

I was surprised there was not more talk about the ATW800/2 (e.g. 2nd batch) considering they covered the 1st batch.

Actually @Steve did a great job in promoting the H5 on AF: https://atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=42588.

I'm pretty sure atariscne.org guys would welcome a news entry like that, too (ideally with the latest development / status).

Nice one @Steve !

I had to refresh AF a few times as it seems broken ?!

Capture.PNG

I only had a quick read though the comments. Mostly people moaning its not what "they" want, or "should do this or that" or moaning as they have to destroy a motherboard nonsense again..

I could probably write several pages on why that is all wrong, but I really cannot be bothered... People who actually follow the roadmaps and the design goals know vastly better than people who just "think" they know whats going on.
