DO NOT USE MOBILE / CGNAT DEVICES WHERE THE IP CHANGES CONSTANTLY!
At this time, it is unfortunately not possible to whitelist users when your IP changes constantly.
You may inadvertently get banned because a previous attack may have used the IP you are now on.
So I suggest people only use fixed IP address devices until I can think of a solution for this problem!

Timeworks DTP 1.1

Post by DoctorVell »

Hi there,

Here is what I have...

Atari emulator: hAtari 2.6.0
OS: Windows 11 Pro
Atari Emulated System: Atari Mega STe (my personal favourite of all the emulations possible)
Hard Drive: I am using a folder on my external hard drive called 'STe' (not using drive images)

I have installed (successfully) Timeworks 1.1 DTP with GDOS

I used to use that same program on my actual Atari 1040STe and print off using either my Panasonic 9-pin or my Atari SLM804 Laser Printer. I want to do that again, but I do not have access to an actual Atari and printer. I know that hAtari does NOT support printing directly to a printer or into a PDF format. I would love to create documents and print them on modern printers. I know there are some great DTP programs for Windows (free and commercial), but I don't want to use those; I want to go 'old school' with mine. If I have to switch using 'STEem' (is this even updated anymore?) I could do that as I used to use that back before hAtari came into being.

Perhaps try PH PDF (A printer driver which saves as a PDF rather than output to a printer)

Then you can print that PDF from your host PC.

It's a bit of a hassle but if you have NVDI then some of those printer drivers can be told to print to a PCL file, and then there are programs for converting PCL to PDF that you can run on your PC.

But if you can get PH PDF working as Steve mentioned then that's probably a lot nicer workflow :)

I will try that when I get the chance, but I hope it does work when I use Timeworks DTP 1.1; otherwise, I will have to learn a new DTP program (maybe PageStream or another one (taking suggestions)).

I am confused on how to edit the configuration to make this work. This is the steps I am confused about

Edit your ASSIGN.SYS file to include PHPDF.SYS as a driver, I normally take over device 21. Please install the extra fonts as per your screen drivers.
This means copy the fonts lines under the screen device to device 21 (or whatever nunber you define PHPDF as).

Configure your GDOS engine to load TrueType fonts for better fonts output on the PDF.

Run PHPDF.CPX to select the configuration of your PDF - paper size, print resolution, manual or auto selection of the pathname of the PDF to creat & other settings.

A PHPDFMKR.DAT is created on C:\ root after running PHPDF.CPX.
This file containing a snapshot of the fonts as install by GDOS and is used by PHPDF.SYS for font information.
A log file PHPDFMKR.LOG is on C:\ root, please review to see if any error in detecting fonts installed on your system.
Any TrueType Font path not found as well as bitmap fonts will default to the PDF default Helvitica font.
