In light of a sideline discussion about memory tests in my STE536 topic.. viewtopic.php?p=129794#p129794
I thought it be better to start a new topic on this as @dml and @stephen_usher were offering suggestions.
I'm not saying this will make it into my build of TOS (maybe) but I think it warrants a proper topic of its own. In TOS may be good as it doesn't need to load from floppy/HDD, or even get to the desktop to run tests. A PRG would need to get to desktop. But TOS running from ROM alone can make things easier.
I do remember MENTEST86 having the best tests of the time. It found problems with my PC ram. But later versions didn't find the errors the older 86 program did.
Its also possible a new diagnostic ROM could be build. There is DIAGROM ST version which does a good job, but with no real maintainers, I think its probably not worth going down that route.
I don't know about the Atari diagnostic cart stuff, maybe someone could patch them to work for the 030 CPU on the STE and add TTram tests ? Lots of options but what I can do is going to be limited unfortunately.
What memory tests so people want in a new RAM test program?

I have been sorta working on something like this in the background (and some related things for testing) but not in a hurry and there can never be too many utils :p
[edit]
I should maybe have explained that better - I'm working on some test tools which happen to include a memory test. If it's done in time you could take bits from that if you want. If I'm too slow - which is the normal case - something else might turn up that does the job.
