Oh no, not again...
So, having received the H5 C5B board a little earlier this week, I'm starting to look at what I have already/can salvage from another system and have so far forgotten when starting to think about placing a different order...
Only actual step thus far is to remove the audio amp that was fitted incorrectly - I'll re-fit it once I have the basics working (as I don't have audio directly available in the monitors near my working area, it's quite far down the priority list at the moment).
One thing I've completely forgotten is whether I need the byte-swapped ROM images if I'm programming a Hitachi 27C4096 EPROM using the TLS866 programmer I bought of @rubber_jonnie a few years back...
I have images of the patched TOS 1.04 with support for IDE and standard TOS 2.06 in both normal & byte-swapped format, so that sounds like a good match for this latest H5 C5B board (at least to start with...it may end up with an ST536 fitted if I get everything working on this one).
I was hoping to get a lot done this long weekend but so far the weather on the North Sea coast has been dry, so I've been 'encouraged' to be out in the garden mowing and sorting our some raised beds for planting some veggies...
The forecast for tomorrow and Sunday still looks reasonable, so it looks like Monday might be me one opportunity for getting some progress on this board (we are apparently going to get some rain for parts of the day...unless they change the forecast again).
More here once I actually get time to work on it...

That's the idea ;)rubber_jonnie wrote: 19 Apr 2025 00:53 I now have 'One Step Beyond' by Madness running through my head...
Can you remember if I use the byte-swapped or unswapped images for the TL866 when programming the 27C4096 EPROMs @rubber_jonnie ?
Thx

Re: JezC H5 C5B Build - one STep beyond...?
I last used 27C4096's on the Tracey IDE board, and I don't remember TBH, however I did use EPROMs so if I did stuff it up it was an easy fix to erase and reburn. I don't think I used byte swapping but I can't be sure and given the cost of ROMs I'd rather not suggest you do something that means you have an unusable ROM.JezC wrote: 19 Apr 2025 10:28That's the idea ;)rubber_jonnie wrote: 19 Apr 2025 00:53 I now have 'One Step Beyond' by Madness running through my head...

I'll see if I can find a ROM image later, see if I can see if it's byte swapped.

Thanks @rubber_jonnie.
No massive rush, waiting on other bits anyway, so I'm trying to answer as many questions as I can before they become blockers to progress....

I get that, I do the same too :)JezC wrote: 19 Apr 2025 10:42 Thanks @rubber_jonnie.

@JezC IIRC, have a look for text in the room image files. If it's readable then it "should" be fine to use on a TL866.
For my Gq 4x4 the image needs to be byte swapped, so unreadable text in it's case.
If in doubt, read back a working rom and see.how the text is.

If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

Re: JezC H5 C5B Build - one STep beyond...?
Not a bad idea @PhilC...I can see if I can get the ROM out of my working H4 or the booting H5C boards and read that.
@rubber_jonnie I have some 27C4096 EPROMs but I'd have to dig out my eraser... which is hopefully somewhere in my study....
