Ultrasatan / 1040 STF Trouble

Post by Marsupilami »

Hi,

I need help with my atari 1040 STF (full stock configuration).

My problem is that with ultrasatan, the ST is loosing the disk/folder content sometimes :

In this example, the PP driver is 0.9 (included with the image file) :

But i also have the problem with the PP V1.1hs (randomly) and it's the same with the ICD Free driver provided with this card.

The only way to see the content again is to shutdown the Atari AND the (brand new) ultrasatan
I don't have the problem with the floppies (or since it's a random problem...not yet).

Some technical details :

PCB : C070789-001 = PCB 1040STF (Rev.B), PLCC-Blittersockel, 256KB/1MB ROMs, gesockelte MCU und GLUE, 32 Ramchips 256KB*1
Image

TOS : Stock 1.02c as reported by PPP13U - French

Image

DMA : C025913-38 / PH23-030 / 7F1 78 (seems to be the mythic "BAD" DMA but after reading this post i know there is no "Bad" ones). And in this same post, i read "Just grab one from an STF and you may find that works". Ok...but this one is an STF :)
Image

CPU : Motorola - SC87896P8 MC68000 / 3A72E8715 (soldered)
Image

PSU : Stock 220V ASP34-2 Rev 5

So...what's next ? changing TOS ? DMA ? CPU ? PSU ?

Thanks,
Marsup

DMA is one of the first things to fail when the PSU is bad. So firstly you need to get it re-capped.

Also, the US PSU can also cause issues, or bad SD card contacts. Bad contact can trash or even damage the SD card.. Its not always the ST itself to blame for faults :)

The US PSU seems good, i 've tried another one: same result.

Anyway i'll order a new PSU, but...which one ?
You have 2 in your shop, the "STFM/E Upgraded PSU 240V" in stock seems good but for "STFM / STE" (mine is a STF but is it compatible?)

Since i have no skills at all to repair the actual one, and i don't like throwing old Atari stuff, are you interested to get this one ?

Regards,
Marsup

STF/FM/E PSU's are all the same. Just make sure you have 240V PSU ( I don't sell 110V versions).
