If there's no silicon heaven, then where do all the calculators go?

So, I was trawling eBay and found some interesting calculators. 2 are interesting because I had them back in the day during my O and A levels.

The fx-39 and fx-3600p are the two I owned and aside from them needing a good clean, both work fine and the fx-39 VFD display looks just great.

The fx-7700 just caught my eye as it was cheap and needs a little work as the battery contacts are a bit corroded, though it does work, and I think it needs to have a full reset and new CR2032 for the battery backed memory, but I think it should come back to life nicely.

Well, luckily the way Casio built the fx-7700GH, it meant that although the spring was corroded, nothing got inside and onto the PCB 😁

So, a short cleanup later and a tweak of what was left of the spring and it's all good 😁

I don't know why but I have a weird nostalgia for calculators which I stop myself from indulging. Sometimes I find myself looking for vintage calculators on eBay, then I snap myself out of it and close the browser lol :)

And my other Casio that I've owned from new:

I used this daily in my work in a metal fabrication shop, and all my by bend growth notes are still on it :) I still use it today.

I have the boxes manuals for the first two.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

Given the design and product number, it would suggest the the fx-3600p was from 1979/80?

'81 to '85 from what I can tell, which is about right for my ownership timeframe.

Well, scrolling through eBay and I happened upon this fellow:

I'd honestly forgotten this calculator, probably because it was a swap with a friend, but it was likely the first calculator I had. Very surprised to stumble upon it and it seems to work, bar the decimal point.

Very clean and has the original case and manual as you can see, and it's in overall decent nick.

Next I'll see if I can recall how to tear it down and see if I can fix the decimal point :)
