I received my H5 C1 board yesterday. This seemed a lot more "doable" than the H5 B1 that I got half done but ran out of steam. I'm grateful that @exxos posted this for sale after I missed out on the last batch.
Soldered the mandatory items:
32MHz crystal
RAM socket
Clock chip (DS1315)/Battery holder
Reset switch
ROM select header
RGB port
Floppy port
Bridged 3V3 port #2
Bridged pads top-bottom (by keyboard header)
Installed jumpers at:
BLiTTER
RAM 4mb (3 jumpers)
TOS (low bank)
GLUE/H-SYNC
GLUE/ROM CE
GLUE/SOUND DECODING
JP22/8Mhz 1722
Default Drive LED (by keyboard header)
Did NOT install jumpers:
Unmarked jumper by CPU
DAC
RGB/Mono Switch
JP18 720k/1.44mb
JP19 720k/1.44mb
Drive A/B Swap
Installed GLUE, MMU, SHIFTER, C100110-001, WD1772, YM2149F, EF6850P (x2) from a non-working 1040ST.
Installed new CPU, 1.02/1.04 TOS ROM, MFP 68901, DS1315, 4mb RAM
Using a cable that switches between Color/Monochrome video modes and known working PSU I powered up the board. It boots to the desktop but only in monochrome:
Color gives this screen:
With the cable set to RGB I get a black screen with a single reddish-brown vertical line on the left side of the screen. I can hear the keypress "beep" so I'm assuming the computer is running but I could use some help from you gurus diagnosing this? I know the chips came from a non-working ST so I'm a little suspicious of them (thinking the Shifter possibly).
Some questions:
What other jumpers do I need to install (I know I need to install jumpers for the floppy 720k/1.44mb and A/B select) or what did I miss?
I have a GAL22V10D iirc this is for using a 1.44mb floppy? Does that only work in 2.06 or will it work in 1.04 also?
What is the unmarked jumper by the CPU? (guessing its a bypass if you're using one of the IO Ports for CPU)
Can someone enlighten me on what the two DAC jumpers do?
S2 MIDI Synth? Source for this part?
Would love to post a screen of my favorite game but its color only :D

All the jumpers are listed here viewtopic.php?f=89&t=3563
The floppy GAL will work with 206 or 104 etc.

Re: officer960's H5 C1 build
Probably unrelated, but note that you installed IMP versions of the chipset. That is the last generation of the ST chipset and it is known that might have issues in some cases. I don't know if anybody at all used a full IMP chipset on an H5 (or H4 for that matter). Surely @exxos and @Icky would know better.officer960 wrote: 17 Nov 2024 08:48 Installed GLUE, MMU, SHIFTER, C100110-001

I soldered in the floppy power (x2) connector, cartridge, MIDI, ACSI, Printer and Modem ports.
Installed a HBS240 16MHz (68000) accelerator with cache RAM.
- DAC and Buffer Blanking headers needed jumpers which enabled color screen modes to work.
Placing a jumper on the unmarked header left of the CPU (as I learned this was a second BLiTTER enable/disable) caused the Ultrasatan to start working.

Great stuff. You got that up and running in record time
As for audio issues, there's another mod for that.

Obligatory GEMBench screenshot. Not sure if applicable since I've installed an accelerator? Had previously done the YM audio fix and thanks to @exxos pointing out the floppy drive audio noise fix, that is done also. Still need to do the S1 MIDI fix, but the Yamaha audio is now crystal clear!exxos wrote: 24 Nov 2024 00:31 Great stuff. You got that up and running in record time

Re: officer960's H5 C1 build
Great result @officer960!
Would it be possible for you to take a couple of close-up photos around the FDC, GALand jumpers etc. please?
I'm trying to see why my H4 works fine but my two H5C1 boards both bomb out when I access a floppy (or boot with a floppy in the drive).
Given no-one else has this problem, it's most likely something I have done wrong but photos of the working board would help me rule out lots of possibilities.
Thanks!

Re: officer960's H5 C1 build
@JezC I hadn't yet added a floppy (rarely use them since Ultrasatan) drive and planned to just add a Gotek since most of my physical 3.5" disks seem to be plagued with errors or just don't work at all. I have SEVERAL 3.5" drives laying around from ST's, TT, Falcon, etc that I have replaced with Goteks. Your post prompted me to experiment (TOS 1.04).JezC wrote: 25 Nov 2024 16:47 Great result @officer960!

I installed a high density 1.44 floppy drive that worked as of a month ago in my TT030:
- GAL in place, JP18/19 open, JP22 1&2 8MHz16Mhz - boots to desktop, no drives shown
- GAL removed, JP18/19 closed, JP22 2&3 8MHz 1772 (DEFAULT) - boots to desktop, drive shown - tons of read write errors and keeps alerting that write protection is on - possibly a bad drive, bad floppies or both
- GAL removed, JP18/19 closed, JP22 2&3 8MHz 1772 (DEFAULT) - boots to desktop, drive shown - works perfectly with any .ST file I loaded
@exxos Is there a header for ACSI for an Ultrasatan installed internally on the H5? I seem to remember someone installing one in their H4 or H5.
