Anyone heard of the Heron and MMU Remake?

Post by rubber_jonnie »

Specifically this Heron RAM upgrade
The reason I was asking is because the blurb states there is a remake MMU coming that will allow for more than 4MB of ST RAM.
Collector of many retro things!
800XL and 65XE both with Ultimate1MB,VBXL/XE & PokeyMax, SIDE3, SDrive Max, 2x 1010 cassette, 2x 1050 one with Happy mod, 3x 2600 Jr, 7800 and Lynx II
Approx 20 STs, including a 520 STM, 520 STFMs, 3x Mega ST, MSTE & 2x 32 Mhz boosted STEs
Plus the rest, totalling around 50 machines including a QL, 3x BBC Model B, Electron, Spectrums, ZX81 etc...

Interesting.

Back in the day, there was the Magnum 16Mb card: https://www.soundonsound.com/techniques ... um-st-card

Although, it didnt replace the MMU IIRC.

There was an opensource 8MB AltRAM card (like the Magnum ST) discussed here long time ago.

Neither needed to replace the MMU.

Wouldnt the inclusion of the (in development) MMU at least entertain the possibility of the extra ram being ST-RAM?

Yes, if the MMU was changed to support a larger address range it would be ST-RAM not Alt-RAM

The Heron was launched on 23rd August 2024 and is as yet just a 4MB ST-RAM upgrade.

Lotharek is making/selling it but the designer appears to be called "Bartek Świderski"?

I saw this this post on FB as well - Retro Lemon is selling it.

I'm curious about the extended ST RAM ranges, and how
it will eventually compare to something like the STorm-ST,
for example...
