Are STM1 Mouse Replacement pre-molded cables easy to make? The ones that need to be soldered to the PCB? It seems BEST Electronics is the only place that sells them and he has a 3 item limit for the last two years. He no longer responds to my order requests. The item number is CB101112UNI in his Catalog. I know you are selling the last of your stock of PeST, but I am hoping to just replace the cable as that is what always goes bad for my STM1 mice as it gets pinched/bent at the end then has a bad connection. I was hoping to keep my ST and Falcon as original as possible with the exception of some internal modifications. But the Mouse is what I would like to keep original. I would definitely purchase at least 10 of them if it is something Exxos Strore can carry.
Thank you

Re: Replacement mouse cables
I have the same problems. I can't buy from BEST either. But I'd imagine the cables are expensive anyway.
I have a lot of original mice and I bet half the cables are busted. I could probably get replacements made but there's a 1000 MOQ in general.
Also can you edit your post and upload images to the forum as not linking isn't allowed thanks :)

Re: Replacement mouse cables
I did find a vendor naussaunationalcable.com that sells 18 AWG 8 Conductor Unshielded Multi Conductor Cable for $3.54 a foot with a minimum of 25ft. and for shielded $4.90. That comes out to $88.50 plus shipping and $122.50 plus shipping for Shielded for . Best sells the replacement cables that need to be soldered like mine at $11.50 each. For eight 3 ft cables that comes out to $11.06 just for the unshielded cables and $15.31 for shielded. I do not know if he sells them with the DB9 or just the cable and if we have to solder it ourselves at the DB9 as well as the PCB.
If the cables are made at 2.5ft that would be $8.85 and $12.25 a cable respectively not including the shipping cost. So it is comparable just for the cables and the cost would go up based on the DB9 and the flex tip at the connection of the mouse.
I also found someone who cut his DB9 connection and glued it together after replacing his cable with an DB9 RS232 cable. Did a good job.
I would not mind investing a bit of funding to have the replacement cables made if the DB9 and the flex tip at the mouse can be bought or made as a plastic snap style molded in the same style. It would be a great alternative on getting the STM1 mice back working again for those who only need the cables. Whenever they need replacing, just snap the ends open and solder to the PCB and or DB9. For those that have the pin connectors just solder on to that I would think.
The replacement cables alone would be either 8 or 10 per batch at the minimum of 25 ft if cut at 3ft or 2.5ft respectively.
Do you know what the AWG is for the STM1 mouse?
I threw away perfectly good mice because of the cables and I did not know they could be replaced.
Thanks

Re: Replacement mouse cables
Unless you want to buy several hundred of the cables, which even if they was at £2 a cable (which is unlikely) its going to cost a lot. My port saver cables were custom made and I had to buy 1,000 of them and they *should* have been reasonably popular, mice cables are going to be a order of magnitude less popular. I think buying from best is the only "simple" solution if they have the full replacement cables.
