I have this mostly working STFM here with these 30 pin simm sockets floating under the keyboard. I threw two 256K simms in there to see if it would go to 1MB, but no dice.
Has anyone seen a mod like this before, and should it work?

Yes, they pop up from time to time and it should work.

It may need 1MB SIMMs.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

Thanks for the feedback all. I'll try some 1MB SIMMs. I've heard the bios will simply "ignore" memory it doesn't like, is there any flavor of memory that these machines prefer or are proven to work with?

I found this diagram which is helpful, and tracing each connection i've already found some issues, like A1 & A5 are transposed on the right-hand SIMM. I'll keep checking. If I do get it working i'm going to consider re-doing the whole job a bit cleaner.
