A pcb to prepare a set of component before assembly

Post by sporniket »

This summer, I will try to assemble a remake of the Thomson MO5 (I will create a blog about that), and in preparation of that medium-sized project (I mean, compared to a ST) , I made a PCB as an helper to organise my work : https://github.com/sporniket/passive-co ... tag/v1.0.0

Here is how it looks after having prepared all my resistors for an assembly session :

As you can see, this is just a plate that can hold up to 100 (from *00 to *99) components that should be of the same type. One is expected to have selected each value for each component, and bend the legs as appropriate (the plate accomodate up to a pitch of 500 mils)

So, the principle is to load this components holder with the family of components that you plan to assemble, e.g. the diodes :

Then you assemble your batch of components by picking from the holder and placing to the target PCB :

To give an ideas, it took me 1 hour to prepare those around 80 resistors (including around 15 minutes just to sort my bags of resistors to get them in the order of the BOM), and around 15-20 minutes to pick and place them.
