Things not to do with a toll road ticket...

Post by rubber_jonnie »

We travelled back from France yesterday and it was a long drive from where we were staying to the ferry port involving multiple toll roads.

One such toll road is a very long stretch of over 80 miles and when you join the road you get a ticket at a toll booth. Since it was on the left, my wife took the ticket and placed it in the cubby in the centre console of the car.

That specific cubby is for wireless charging phones, but of course it wasn't until some 30 miles later I went "Oh hell, that ticket has a magnetic strip!!! I bet the wireless charger has wiped it!!!'.

I was right, but an easy slip to make :(

We got to the toll booth where the ticket was needed in order to pay, but the machine wouldn't accept it. The ticket was just not accepted.

Luckily there was a code on the ticket and the person on the end of the speaker (They are unattended booths) had great english and the delay wasn't terrible, but a lesson learned: Don't put items with magnetic strips or media in your wireless charging cubby!!!

Might be a good way to erase floppy disks...

Luckily I have a modern car that makes the switch from MPH to KMH dead easy, not to mention telling you speed limits and what's in your blind spot :)
