TT030 ST ram board 2mb - 8mb

Post by grunwald »

I had a bit of time this week and decided to upgrade one of my 2mb ST ram boards to 8mb. I picked up a pair of 72pin simms from ebay with the necessary chips for $7.38 including shipping. The process is very straight forward as long as you have a the later smt card with the jumpers. The board I worked on already had a few bad ram chips so I figured there was nothing to lose. Removing the chips using hot air from the SIMMs and the ram board went fairly easy. I didn't want to expose the board to further heat so I hand soldered the chips back on. I will say that this part was tedious and annoying. It took at least four passes to eliminate the solder bridges and open ciruits. In the end I believe it was worth it. I will likely upgrade the other boards I have in the future.

Nice work. By the way, I wouldn't mind mounting my BlueSCSI properly in the HDD bay too, but I don't have any 3D print files. Could you point me in the right direction? Thx

That bracket came with the BlueSCSI 2 board I purchased from Joe's Computer Museum. It is a bit flimsy and is only secured to the housing by 2 screws. I am going to print this bracket, https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6624237, and see how it fits.

I printed the new BlueSCS2 bracket and other than trimming the front bezel, it works great. It's tight, but I can still remove the sd card.
