TF1232 Demo crashes

Post by muteki »

Hi,

I've had a few demos crashing with the TF1232 (work fine without it).
I'm not really sure if it is my setup, the TF1232 or the slave.

Anyway, I have a 2B board with timing fixes done, running on 3.2.2.1, WHDLoad 18.9 and the latest slaves for the demos. (The OS has just been reinstalled on a brand new CF card and is stable apart from demos crashing). I have two PSUs to test (recapped A500 + MW RPT-60B) and crashes happen with both. Installed MMULib is 47.6.2 (from Aminet).

MMU is enabled in whdload.prefs as recommended for 68030 (though some demos that crash need to have NoMMU).

Here's a couple of demos that crash whatever I try
Control (halfway through the demo, getting an illegal instruction error)
Nexus7 (crashes at Gouraud pulse with an illegal instruction error)
Origin (crashes halfway with illegal instruction)
Roots2 (crashes at start with access fault)
Goa (crashes with Address error)
FullMoon (crashes with illegal instruction)

And quite a few more... I'll update the list as I test.

I have tried the obvious tooltype options (NoCache, NoMMU, NoAutoVEC) with no luck.

Anyone else is able to reproduce these errors?

Haven't tried the others but Control plays all the way through for me without issue on a 1d4 board.

3.2.2.1
whdload 18.9
mmulib 46.21

I installed MMULibs 46.21 to test and Control still crashes at the exact same place with the same illegal instruction error.

This is the strangest thing. I've been testing more and now demos like Nexus7 or Roots2 that crashed before, run without problems. No changes at all, same machine, same PSU, same CF card.
Control, Full Moon, Goa, Origin still crash.

As I continue testing, Nexus 7 crashes randomly, but always at the same point in the demo. Meaning that it can run 3 times and then crash the 4th time.

All other demos crash consistently.

Nexus7 no issues either - I can test the others later but I think they are likely to work.

@BennehBoy Do you have any particular tooltype options? And could you share your whdload.prefs so that I can try your settings?

Thanks :)

I am using OS 3.2.2.1 and running it on the TF1232 IDE using a SD card, and have no problems running these Demo`s

Can you try a SD card like I do ? see if you get any difference

@supaduper The demos are running from a SD card connected to the TF IDE (OS is running from CF card on the onboard IDE)

And I have of course tried both, Controlf for example crashes consistently at the same point.

@supaduper I replicated your setup, fresh 3.2.2.1 install on an SD card connected to the TF IDE, MMULibs installed and nothing else. I copied over Control, crashes exactly at the same point as it did before.

At this stage, and since I've had so many crash issues (most of them illegal instructions) since the beginning with this card, that no one manages to reproduce (apart from the IDE issue, which was something else), would there be the slightest possibility that there is an issue with the CPU or the TF card itself?

I have during the past month basically changed everything other than the TF in my setup: new CF > IDE adapter, new CF card, fresh install, new PSU, recapped the old one, etc.

You will have to return to me to test/Replace, and yes it might be a `Weak` CPU, I have emailed you
