Falcon ground solder braids

Post by PacificState »

I pulled my Falcon apart to fit a new clock patch and battery and found solder braid ground 'wires'. I can't see that these are common mods - does anyone else recognize them and otherwise know if they're necessary? Thanks!

I think it was a 'poor mans' way to ground the Falcon to a rack-mount case. Perhaps at some point in your Falcons life it's motherboard was transported into/out of a rack mount of some kind. They're not necessary, just remove them and make sure that end of the capacitors is grounded to the edge of the motherboard.

One thing - should that heatshrink go all the way down the legs of the capacitors? I'm pretty sure at least the one on the right will short out on the middle pin under it - and I'm not sure if that's intentional or shoddy, either.

To answer my own question - it's badly soldered and the middle 'pin' is the plastic support. Now tidied up and re heat-shrinked.
