2 ST - STF and STE shows faulty (help needed)

Post by Dlfrsilver »

Hello, currently a contact that has bought one STF and one STE gets this screen after cleaning the screen he used (CRT Sony) :

This screen appears on both STF/STE, he used another screen on the computers, same result. A short seems to have happened.

Any idea guys ?

The STE does odd things like that if it's stuck in reset.

Do you mean that it's the capacitor tied to the reset button that died and put the STE in a loop ?

Essentially yes.

The capacitor, along with the rest of the reset circuit, stops the CPU from starting before the rest of the system is ready. If the capacitor is too far out of specification the CPU will start before the other chips are ready and the system will crash.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

What I mean is it looks similar like when you hold the reset button in. Could be any part of the reset circuit at fault. Might be something else but checking the basics first is always a good start.
