DFB1X - Falcon booster production board

Post by exxos »

As people should know the DFB1X is the "exxos edition" of @Badwolf's DFB1 accelerator. A lot of my progress on tweaks was reported in THIS thread.

Thought I would do a 3-D render and illustrate the jumper changes which are present on this revision.

DFB1X.PNG

JC1.PNG

JC1 = Master clock select. Jumper open or closed will select 40MHz or 50MHz oscillator.
CLOSED = 40MHz
OPEN = 50MHz.

JP10JP11.PNG

JP10 & JP11 are buffered clock outputs to the FPU & CPU.

JP11 1&2 = FPU unbuffered. (as per DFB1)
JP11 2&3 = FPU Buffered (experimental)

JP10 1&2 = CPU unbuffered. (as per DFB1)
JP10 2&3 = CPU Buffered (experimental)

The buffers are experimental because it is unknown if they will make any difference or not. They are there to properly drive the FPU & CPU clock at the full 5V logic level, rather than being driven from the PLD directly which is 3.3V output. In bolstering up the clock line , it could have detrimental effect because it will also add clockskew. But the higher output drive may or may not help in making 50MHz CPU & FPU more stable.

Pre-acquisitions.

Boards will be configured on buffer does this seems to work perfectly well.

TOS404 will be flashed by default.

MAPROM / FASTRAM.PRG is needed to enable fast-ram. Currently there is nobody supporting the MAPROM software. So if you want to try those versions of that then you are on your own in terms of results.

Please also note, your Falcon has to be in a stock working order to begin with. It has been tested currently with the V4 exxos clock patch. presumably the V2/V3 will also work fine. if you are using anything else then again you are on your own if you run into problems.

Anything outside of a stock Falcon I cannot help you with! I do not have any Falcon hardware add-ons and don't know if "this or that" upgrade will or will not work with the DFB1X.

If you use your own CPU / FPU then you accept all the consequences which go along with it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Known issues

There are no known issues currently. This does not mean that somebody somewhere will not run into them. A exxos clock patch and recrapped PSU should be minimum before installation.

One issue relating to CPUs which will not run at 50MHz the keyboard repeat doesn't work and general stability issues.

:thanksyellow: :dualthumbup:

I love the big secondary FPU ground plane. I hope all that work nails down FPU grief.

+1 geek point for observation ;)
