Probably the king of noob questions here... :D
I stumbled across some heat shrink sheets the other day and it got me thinking...
I recently put together an MT-32-PI + HAT and it's currently sitting in a hacked cardboard box, held together with elastic bands. I was looking for a ready-made enclosure that I could re-purpose. I didn't find anything cheap/suitable so I wondered if I could just wrap it in heat shrink.
I'd also like to do something similar to an internal floppy drive.
Having only used HS tubing before, I don't know how you could wrap something in HS and join the seam. Also, would it handle being cut around OLEDs, jacks etc.
Has anyone done anything similar before and if so, did it work?
Or is this just a really stupid idea?
What's the largest think you've ever wrapped in heat shrink?

I used to wrap PeST in large HS. I think that was about 32mm though.

My mouse adapter is wrapped as well, part of what got me thinking about it.
Did you have to join the seam or was it just a large tube? I suppose super glue for plastics might work.
It's fairly cheap stuff I might just give it a go.

Cool. I guess be careful what you are wrapping because it could have rather large "crushing power" larger diameter you go..chronicthehedgehog wrote: 16 May 2023 13:10 I should have looked harder ;) You can buy some very large diameter HS tubing off ebay

ESC for motors is the biggest I have used heat shrink for. I also did a MT32-PiHat a while ago but I just made custom PCBs for top and bottom. So not really sealed all around.
