For those that remember (I expect @Steve will like this) someone has managed to recreate the Voodoo 6000 card, with its four VSA100 GPU chips.
Along with some modded driver sets and a Windows 98SE based PC of a close enough era, it's now possible to benchmark the card/play some games:
The 3DFX Voodoo 5 6000 AGP finally gets released!

Yeah I'd love one of these... If only I were rich.

I saw it... incredible engineering but the hell they go through with windows 9x and PCI conflicts and driver issues does not look fun.

All part of the norm back then wasnt it? :lol:alexh wrote: 13 Apr 2023 10:56 the hell they go through with windows 9x and PCI conflicts and driver issues does not look fun.
I remember buying a GeForce256 (which is what the original card was called), which I think (IIRC) was at the time was meant to blow the Voodoo 3 out of the water. Unfortunately, with Unreal Tournament having native support for Glide, the 3DFX card could still keep up the Nvidia card AND had better textures too. (Although they were weird fractal looking ones, the frame rate was still competitive so it was all good).
When the Voodoo 4/5 cards arrived it was too late, but right at the last minute, before being taken over by Nvidia, the SW engineers let loose some HSR (hidden surface removal) beta drivers as a last blaze of glory.
Those were the days. I dont think there was ever such a leap in performance from the early 3D cards, to what 3DFX brought out. The Voodoo 2 (especially in SLI) was really the pinnacle for the company I recon. Bless them.

I never had any issues.
Intel CPU + Intel Chipset (from a main motherboard manufacturer like Asus, Gigabyte, MSi) + Nvidia GPU (from a main graphics card manufacturer) + Creative Sound blaster + windows 98 was pretty much guaranteed to work better than anything else.
But I know some people who bought AMD and S3 Savage4 who has no end of problems.

Huh, it's funny how only people of a certain generation call them '3D cards' instead of video card.
It hit me when I asked someone several years ago if they had a 3D card in their PC and they replied: 'What's a 3D card?'
