Hello from unceded Duwamish Territory Dxʷdəwʔabš (Seattle, WA, USA)
i'm spirit shrine and i just joined because i picked up an Atari 1040 STFM to use as a MIDI sequencer for my music studio, and perhaps play around with some tracker music as well.
i've been an electronic musician in some form or another since the mid 1990s, today making witch house, industrial and noise / HNW on old music gear from the 70s - early 90s. i was in a tracker crew in the mid-late 90s and used to know my way around FT2 pretty well at the time. my main interest is music on old machines.
i bought this atari and it's all in german, so i'm here looking for info on what i need to buy to change that out to english, and to learn about anything else i need to jump into sequencing in cubase on an atari.

Hey Spirit Shrine - welcome! Regards to Rainier!
As for conversion to English - very straight forward - you need new TOS ROMs. If you have the means - you can download TOS images and burn your own to EEPROMs. If not - Exxos has all combos for sale in his store. You will need to open up the machine to determine your possible options. I assume the keyboard will be 'AZERTY' - so either a new/traded keyboard - or maybe some labels - depending on your OCD levels...

Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

Welcome to the forum!
Always great to hear about people comping (back) to the platform for music.

Re: Hello from unceded Duwamish Territory Dxʷdəwʔabš (Seattle, WA, USA)
Thanks for the warm welcome y'all, it's nice to be here!
This is all stuff I've never done before; replacing ROM chips and such, I'm at the point of "I don't know what I don't know, so I'm not sure what I should be asking".
I do know I need TOS ROMs, I also know I'd like to run Cubase (in addition to any other music-related stuff that piques my interest), and so I'm looking for info on what ROMs will work in my machine for what I want to do. I've already taken it apart, and there are only two ROMs installed currently, and I *think* I need the TOS 2.06 ROMs for this. I've looked at the shop and I'm seeing TOS 2.06 ROMs for the STE, not sure if that will work in the STFM, so yeah. Just trying to learn about what I have before making any purchases.
