Using an original internal ST drive with a Kryoflux or Greazleweasle

Post by Dlfrsilver »

Hello,

I tried to find schematics regarding the ST internal drive, because i would like to make an experiment.

I would like to be able to connect a good working original ST drive i have to my Floppy cable connected to my Kryoflux board, in order to dump games using copylocks, and see if i get a result different from the Sony PC drive i usually use.

Thanks if you can help :)

The ST drive is just a normal PC 720KB drive set to DS0. There are a ton of schematics here, but I don't know if there is a specific FDD one: Schematics and other useful stuff
Collector of many retro things!
800XL and 65XE both with Ultimate1MB,VBXL/XE & PokeyMax, SIDE3, SDrive Max, 2x 1010 cassette, 2x 1050 one with Happy mod, 3x 2600 Jr, 7800 and Lynx II
Approx 20 STs, including a 520 STM, 520 STFMs, 3x Mega ST, MSTE & 2x 32 Mhz boosted STEs
Plus the rest, totalling around 50 machines including a QL, 3x BBC Model B, Electron, Spectrums, ZX81 etc...

What you mean is that i can basically use an ST drive directly on a regular PC floppy Cable 34 pin ?

Yes, but you'll probably need to set it to DS1 rather than DS0 as ST drives are set.

It's done by a jumper or a soldered link on the floppy drive itself.

Normal PC drives use a cable twist for ID.

Ok, i have a problem : once plugged, i get the green diode of the drive always on. And it doesn't work.

I'm missing something, but what ? :?

I have tried DS1 by jumper at the back of the drive, but it gives the same result as position DS0 (default).

If the LED is always on, it's likely you have the cable reversed then.
