ICD AdSCSI Plus interface remake in progress

Post by tOriman »

Hi,

On the first day of the New Year, I would like to announce that I have finally managed to reproduce the contents of the 5 GAL16V8 protected chips from this device, which of course will make it possible to build a working clone. I am in the process of building it and when I finish - I will definitely publish all the information on the www.

The work on the project was only possible thanks to brave people - Atari users, whom I thank very much for providing equipment for testing and any other help in this regard. Here they are:

μicr0Bee - our colleague from the Atari Area forum - http://www.atari.org.pl/forum/profile.php?id=2110
SoulBuster - a user from the USA met on the Atari Age forum - https://forums.atariage.com/profile/34424-soulbuster/
ZuluGula - our colleague from the Atari-Area forum - http://www.atari.org.pl/forum/profile.php?id=4492

Praise to them for their support!

I will post the documentation on www in some time. I still need to build a working remake ;-) Interestingly - this will involve two versions of ICD AdSCSI Plus at once. Without a comparator and with a comparator with the fact that the clone will already include a comparator - there's a reason why the ICD folks made this change in the layout, in later versions. That's the story.

Cheers to 2023!

Hi,

I am pleased and proud to say that the ICD AdSCSI Plus interface restoration project has been completed. Based on the reproduced data, I have built a working clone of the device, which behaves identically (well) to the original :)

Feel free to visit my website - http://atari.myftp.org to the Atari 16-bit section. Pages are in Polish so please use Google translator service.

It is free - as always with me....

Regards
tOri

Fantastic work @tOriman

So does this do the same as "THE LINK" cable then ? I'm sorry I don't remember if you reversed that or not ?

I remember using "the link" to connect my SCSI drive to my ST back in the day. So I assume this AdSCSI is basically the same thing?

Yes. It does basically the same things as Link2 and has a clock (RTC) on board (Link2 doesn't). it is one of the best - in my opinion - ACSI-SCSI interfaces for Atari 16-bit. You can connect any SCSI device as long as there are proper drivers for it, such as CD-ROM.

I don't know how to "reverse" MACH110 devices on which Link2 was built yet ;-) Maybe I'll remake it in future.

I think that would be like the holy Grail for a lot of people.

But saying that,I guess if you have everything reversed in that interface than it could ultimately be all be squashed down into a single PLD anyway ? In which case there will probably be no point reversing the MACH devices anyway.

This interface is very good for SCSI2SD for example.
And - yes - I agree that all can be fitted into Xilinx or Altera single PLD

I hope that many broken devices will be fixed now :-)
