Question about 16MB 72pin 60ns SIMM £13 [0091]

Post by JDW »

Your photo in the store is low-resolution so I cannot see the chip part numbers. Can you please tell me the p/n (or a list of the various chip p/n's) of the RAM chips on the 16MB 72pin 60ns SIMMs that you have in stock?

The reason I ask is because my intent is to desolder the 8 RAM chips chips in order to make four 4MB 30pin SIMMs (2 RAM chips on each 4MB SIMM) which will then be compatible with vintage Macs. I have the bare PCBs for that purpose, in fact. But some RAM chips on 16MB 72pin SIMMs are physically wider than others and may prove very difficult to solder. That's why knowing the chip part numbers before I buy will be extremely helpful.

For example, these 4Mx4 RAM chip part numbers are all confirmed compatible for my intended application:
  • 71C17400 (GoldStar GM)
  • 5117400 (Hitachi HIT, OKI M)
  • 4F160411 (Samsung K)
  • *44C4100 (Samsung KM)
  • 417400 (Mitsubishi M5M)
  • 517400 (Motorola MCM )
  • 417409 (Mitsubishi M5M)
Sorry for the trouble. I hope you have a wonderful year-end holiday!

I think you're working on the assumption that I have 100s of identical simms, which isn't the case. They are simms which are tested and proven to work on the Falcon. Beyond that, they could be anything.

I will look at a few to see if they have the numbers you suggest, but you might have to take to auction sites and sellers who are selling specific simms you are looking for.

Great! If it's 8 or 9 chips on that 72pin 16MB SIMM, then I would love to order that specific SIMM (along with a few other items) whenever you restart your ordering system again.

I think they are all 8 chip. I hope to start the store again next week sometime.

Excellent, thank you. I can reference this thread when I order next week so you know the 71C17400 SIMM is the one I wish to order. If you happen to find a second, I will buy that too. But if you only have 1pc, that's perfectly fine. One 16MB 72pin SIMM with 8 ICs will make four 4MB 30pin SIMMs (2 chips on each PCB).

I appreciate your time. Best wishes to you and your family this holiday season!

It seems I cannot add a "note" to my order so as to reference this thread. In light of that, please simply note that within the next few minutes I will submit my order (James Wages, shipping to Japan). Please ship me the 71C17400 SIMM (72pin, 16MB).

Thank you!

UPDATE: My order number is: 9FB47338D1D9D25393D34DD51C98FAB8
