Silly question
Silly question
Apologies for the silly question, but should (what I think is) a DD floppy drive be able to read a HD floppy disk?
Re: Silly question
nope, as far as I know. Also I guess, if you think logically, if that were the case then magazines (Like ST format) would have saved money by distributing all their cover disks as HD format to save using multiple DD disks.
Re: Silly question
Looks like the replacement drive I had in my STE is actually HD then as connected it to my Falcon and it read a HD disk

Re: Silly question
In short, no, however it will work the other way around, in that HD drives can read DD disks as they have a media detect switch.

Re: Silly question
Yeah that's likely, you can put a HD floppy drive in an STe and it'll work (for reading DD disks) putting it back in a HD capable machine will let it read HD disks again.Dan1975 wrote: Wed Nov 16, 2022 6:08 pm Looks like the replacement drive I had in my STE is actually HD then as connected it to my Falcon and it read a HD disk![]()
