When your search for an equivalent goes a bit wrong...

Post by rubber_jonnie »

So, looking at the datasheets for the SLP2040P from my A5000 PSU (Low 12v rail like my Mac Classic) which has a dead diode (There are two in the package), I found that the MBR2045CT has slightly improved specs over the original and should be fine as a replacement.

I would swear to god I checked the package dimensions on the datasheets as well as the electrical spec, but it seems my brain was mush at the time, and the sizes don't quite match :)

I'm confident that the part will work, it's of a slightly higher spec than the original, and I should be able to make it fit, so I can still get on with the repairs, but annoying nonetheless.

It's almost impossible to find the right sized part on most suppliers' web sites.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

Well I'll be jiggered.

I got an equivalent, the size is correct, the diode direction is correct and it has a better spec than the original.

Does it work? Does it heck!! You can hear the PSU 'ticking' as it tries to start, and as soon as I drop in the original, there it goes and works. Trouble is I still have the same issue and the 12V/5v rails start low and creep up like on the Mac Classic before I replaced the switching transistor. I'll just have to try and find the real thing.

What is annoying is that I can't find a schematic for the PSU, it'd solve a lot of problems if I could.
