Hi from the UK

Post by cam76 »

Hello all,

Been reading/lurking around here for quite a while - finally signed up. Was an ST user back in the day, got my old 520STFM out during lockdown, added a Gotek and put it away again.

Got the urge to hunt around on eBay recently, and hit upon something that was appealing - a 520STE, upgraded to 4MB. Seller said they didn't know much about Atari, but it had been retrobrighted and had an internal HDD.

I guess I was bored at work so I bid and won. Having read so many horror stories, was half-expecting it to turn up broken...but to my amazement, it was near-perfect, and has had a number of upgrades:

* 4MB
* Veloce+ with 2MB RAM (I think)
* Internal HDD about 200MB
* Suspect keyboard has been modified, it feels like it has a proper click to the keys...not spongy like my old ST.

Floppy isn't working, but have swapped out for a working one I have. Unfortunately my old Philips CRT has died on me this afternoon, so I need to find an alternative....probably use a VGA converter if I can find a suitable monitor (grateful for any better suggestions).

From what I can gather the Veloce is pretty unusual.

Anyway - thanks to all the experts here, I feel like I've learnt a lot - although lots more to learn!

Cam.

Rather a rarity that is! AFAIK I am the only person ( known at least) who has one of those.

You'll have to take it to bits and take images ;)

Welcome mate. Sounds a great STE! Good luck in getting back in to Atari :)
I picked up a Mega STE that was near perfect in July, really enjoying that.
