Seems there 3 choices of them
https://www.ebuyer.com/store/Storage/ca ... rives/16TB
Seagate,Toshiba, WD.
The WD is £100 more though
They all seem to have overall good reviews. But anyone here got any personal usage opinions on them ?
My current NAS drive is 4TB Seagate ironwolf. Seems quiet to me. But got some other plans in mind for backups and maybe serving some files on my website etc. Hence why looking for a 16TB drive which won't blow up in under a week.
16TB NAS hard drives ?

Re: 16TB NAS hard drives ?
I'd recommend WD these days because I think WD bought HGST (the previously most reliable brand) I've had some bad experiences with Seagate recently where the drives have had an incredibly loud whine sound, which they did release a firmware fix for, but by that time all my NAS data had been transferred to them.... So yeah. I've never heard anything good about Toshiba for serious storage before, tend to find them in budget PCs.

Seagate have never been the same since the Thailand floods of 2012. Avoid like the plague.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

Re: 16TB NAS hard drives ?
I’ve used a few desktop tosh drives lately and just got a couple of 2.5” ones and other than them being a little noisy at times they are fine. Noise is all head movements.
I’d skip seagate too, just had a 4tb nas drive fail the other day.

If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

Re: 16TB NAS hard drives ?
Ironically I have a toshiba 1TB drive given to me. Didn't think it was that loud or the Seagate barracuda. But not the same drives of course.
My Nvme drive is a WD. They seem to get bad reviews. Seagate seem to get bad returns service. I just gave up looking as there was people moaning about every brand anyway.
So WD or Toshiba then really. Not bought a WD drive since my 36GB raptor drives, still got 2 of them. Hardly used, did my head in , kept having odd issues

I am using WD Gold 16TB drives in my NAS, noisy but I haven't had any problems, they are too new to really judge.

WD/HGST are, in my experience, generally more reliable than Seagate and light years ahead of Toshiba. I've worked with thousands of drives over the years and HGST has always come up trumps with low failure rates. Toshiba are just junk.

I stopped using Seagate , I think when they first started making baracuda drives. Half recall they failed a lot. Don't get me started on Fujitsu drives  or maxtor... Probably others no doubt.
