TF1230 Bootup Issues with 3.x (3.1?) Rom

Post by RustyPete »

Hi having trouble with my TF1230 and new Cloanto 3.x ROMs just purchased.
TF1230 boots ok with old V3.0 ROMS (using ADDMEM for fast ram) and everything seems to work (except ide), but shows a blank Workbench screen when trying to boot from the new 3.x ROMs.
I've tried re-seating them a few times but the results are still the same.
Booting without startup sequence works and everything looks ok with "avail" command showing correct ram, etc.
I'm thinking faulty ROMs but was wondering if there is anything else I can try... Cheers.

:-P

Are those custom roms? which have ehide.device in them ?, if yes then and they have not done a 1mb rom then they will have to have taken a module out to fit the ehide.device, if that is the case then normally it is the workbench.library that is removed, so put the workbench.library into the Libs: directory on your cf card and it should work.

download workbench.library here

Its probably worth trying the system with the 1230 removed to see if the Roms work without the 030.

But also did some disks come with the ROMs? and also did you contact the seller?

Those 3.X roms are garbage. Cloanto basically slapped random parts of 3.1 and 3.9 together and made this mess. You need their own workbench.library on the disk to be able to boot, that's why you get the blank screen.

I recommend using official 3.1 roms and even 3.1.4, 3.2 are friendlier than the 3.X disaster.

email the seller again and they should give you the details on how to boot from the TF IDE, they have not given you all the details when selling this to you

Thanks supaduper, the seller just advised me to manually put the Failat 21 and the MuFastROM >Nil: lines in the SS. To be honest that was my first red flag that this wasn't included in the installation script.
But unfortunately it still doesn't work. I'm using the short IDE cable from the A1200's IDE port, so length isn't an issue. But it may be it doesnt like the CF card? Again, any suggestions appreciated. Cheers.

To boot from the TF IDE really you need custom roms with the ehide.device in them

Yes you cf might not be compatible but most do work as I use the cheap chinese ones and they work fine, did you set up the CF card system ?

Also has your A1200 had the Timing fix done ? this just involves removing two small smd components on the bottom of the motherboard as this can cause problems if not done

Thanks, after fixing up my poor spelling in the startup-sequence inctructions, I actually got it to work...sort of, but it's flakey and intermittent whether the machine boots from it or not.. Also no I haven't had the Timing Fix (?) done on this machine. That sound s like it could be the issue. Is there an instruction set for the mods needed for this timing fix handy?
Regards
Pete.
