Ryzen CPU profiles ?

This is driving me nuts.

I used this on my old motherboard http://phenommsrtweake.sourceforge.net/

On my MSI ryzen it just has "AUTO" which downclocks on light load. Great! BUT!!!!!! When playing games it stutters like mad. If I just run the CPU at max, it works fine.

So how the heck do I set this up ? The "mainstream" tools won't install on win7 it seems :roll:

Either set custom p-states so it can ramp up to full speed quicker. OR. allow me to run the CPU at max speed on games only or something.

What motherboard do you have?
I have an ASUS and they give me some app that runs to select the CPU profiles I want.

When you run Task Manager can you see the CPU load much lower when its on AUTO?
Can you see all cores running at full speed or just one core?

Its a MSI x570 pro.

I'm using the cpuz utils. It down clocks to 1400mhz on all cores. Some do boost to 4200mhz. All cores jump to 3000 when I start doing something on desktop. So it is switching. I don't really understand why games stutter at all on the CPU regardless of clock speed .

Anyway, if I put the multiplier on x36 it gives me a solid 3600mhz on all cores and games are perfect then.

This is quite a good vid on settings and options. It's only 10 mins and discusses a lot of boost issues, e.g. don't set anything in BIOS. He also runs CPU-Z.

I stopped using AMD cpu's years ago (back when I was a poor kid all my family could afford were AMD K6 and then later AthlonXPs) I always envied my friends who had Intel CPUs since AMD *always* seemed to have some kind of bug or issues. When I got a bit older I went Intel and never looked back... looks like AMD still have weird issues.

I had the opposite problem. Intel always had odd issues. So I went AMD and never looked back :lol:

Its odd as even when the CPU is listed as 3000mhz on all cores, games still stutter. If I put the multiplier on x36 then it runs at 3600mhz and all is fine. So I don't know if this is a BIOS problem.

I'm trying to figure out how to fix the core voltage to see if running it at 1.30V all the time will solve it.. This BIOS is a total mess though :roll:

@exxos I think this might depend on a game-by-game basis, you also have GPU settings (power saving, max performance etc) I tend to put my GPU on max performance. Some non-cpu-intensive games can cause these issues and sometimes they have in-game performance commands you can type into the console to fix the problems.

Yep its on max in the GFX settings.

On the AMD versus Intel debate... the chipset is probably one of the most overlooked variables.

The AMD chipsets were pretty good, the competitors were well... &%^%$#$%^%*&
For a long time it was impossible to run high performance raid setups because of the throtteling done by the chipsets.

When AMD removed the heatspreaders from their CPU's and I had a lot of broken AMD cpu's returned to the shop from people crusing the die, I quit using AMD processors.

The best AMD machines I had were the K6 ones that I had running on an intel chipset.
