A visit to see mrbombermilzy :)

Post by rubber_jonnie »

I'd been down visiting my brother the last few days and @mrbombermillzy and I had been chatting about a few machines in the weeks (probably months actually) preceding that I could relieve him of :)

As it turned out, he was on my way home, just 50 minutes from where my brother lives, so agreed to meet up rather than try and courier such fragile machinery about the country.

It was really good to meet physically with a fellow retro addict, and although I was only able to spend half an hour ish chatting, it was certainly time well spent, and if you're able to go to the retro meet-up he's organising: https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/forum/viewt ... =20&t=5390 I reckon it'll be great fun. Sadly I can't go, but hopefully some of you can.

Anyway, I am now the proud owner of an Archimedes 5000, a TI99/4A and a 2nd 800XL, plus a few extra books, as below:

I'm fairly sure these will end up as projects on here in the not too distant future :)

Anyway, thanks again to mrbombermilzy, and it was great to meet you :)

A5000 is a whole new episode for me, we only had BBC Bs at school, what is really interesting is that ther is a supplier label on it and it originally came from Chelmsford in Essex, literally 30 odd minutes down the road from me so I'm thinking it's come home :)

The A5000 is nice, as long as it doesn't have battery damage. You can actually change the CPU and upgrade them far more than the hobbled A4000.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

Quick story:

In our Secondary School, we had BBC Bs at school till the last 2 years I was there, when they upgraded to archies.

Anyway, some idiot in charge forgot to put our class in for an IT GCSE in our 4th year, so when someone realised (pretty much at the end of the year, so far too late to apply) we were hastily put in for a Typing Qualification (which was literally a few months work). The rest of the 5th year was spent playing Zarch and Conqueror and looking at Archie demos! :lol:
