Building new Amigas, chip availabilities

Post by Steve »

Hey guys,

I've been looking at these Amiga PCBs that have been produced and fancy building one for a project, but I'm wondering about chip availabilities.

When it comes to the three main kinds floating about, a500+ a1200 and a4000 -

* Are chips generally available to buy new?
* Where is the best place to source chips besides ebay (I'm talking custom & obsolete chips)
* I assume the a4000 requires a lot more expense than the others, more PCBs to build, more parts, SIM slots, CPUs etc.

Any advice in this area much appreciated,
Cheers

For A4000 chipsets contact Screemo on Amibay.

For A1200 / A500 / A500+ builds it would probably be more efficient to buy a working machine from eBay to get what you need. I know that is sacrilege to some around here but ...

Unfortunately, I've yet to find a Best Electronics equivalent for the C= machines.

Unless anyone knows any better?

Maybe that's a good thing considering Brad's reputation. ;-)
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

Heh. You know what? Apart from the horrendous shipping price for 2 shifter ICs, he was quite pleasant to me and prompt with the replies.

I'm quite tempted to grab some other NOS bits that cost a fortune old and chewed up on ebay normally.

Back on topic though, I wonder where all the liquidated C= stock went?
