More Amstrad - NC200

Post by rubber_jonnie »

Since getting the NC-100 and realising that it will work as a serial terminal to the ST, I've been looking for an NC-200 since it has a bigger screen, plus a floppy drive, again all in a nice portable package.

I found one over the weekend, so this is on the way:

Looking forward to seeing what it can do over the NC-100, though it was sold as parts or repair, so I may have to get it working first!

I was impressed with the NC-100, and until recently had never heard of the NC-200. I think it'll be more useful than my HP Jornada as the terminal software on that is not pleasant, but it's built in on the Amstrads.

Well, a Psion 5MX definitely would as you can program it natively. Can you do that on a Communicator?

Re: NC-200. Amstrad certainly liked brightly coloured keys didn't they?

P.S. I just love the "Secret Menu" key! So well hidden so you won't know there's a secret menu at all!
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

They did, it's kind of neat though :)

As for that menu, as Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons might say, 'Worst secret menu EVER'

I bet if you asked Alan Sugar today what he thought of his old machines... he'd say something like 'big load of cheap chod, bought it for next to nothing in China and sold a boat load of em', was good while it lasted'.

I suspect you're right!!

To be fair, I looked at the bottom of the NC-100 and it was made in Japan, be interesting to see what the NC-200 says.
